About this image and NGC7822:
This image is in the central portion of the NGC 7822 nebula, the who nebula extends well beyond this image and is about 4 times larger that this image alone. This image is taken specifically in the Hydrogen Alpha wavelength, in future sessions when I collect more data for the Oxygen and Sulphur I'll be able to create a wonderful full colour image. NGC7822 is an active star forming region contains a cluster of young stars known collectively as Berkeley 59 encompassed by a large emission nebula known as Shapeless 171. This is primarily a hydrogen emission nebula with a mix of other gases and dust. The dust creates some strikingly darker patches and filaments creating a visually interesting structure.
Where in the sky is it?
NGC 7822 can be found right between the constellations of Cassiopeia and Cepheus, check the sky map below (click to expand), the small red box shows the section of the nebula imaged.
